The Summer School
Roşia Montană: local traditional resources and
state-of-the-art technology for the protection of cultural heritage
1 - 15 September 2012
The sixth ARA Summer School will take place once again in the outstanding historic mining site of Roşia Montană. For two weeks, from September 1st to the 15th, the programme will be aimed at the research, rescue and conservation of the site's valuable heritage.
The theoretical section of the school will be delivered through lectures and discussions held by ARA's guests, researchers, higher education staff and professionals in the field. The hands-on activities comprise the documentation of architectural heritage by measured drawings, photographs and condition surveys, but also by means of state-of-the-art technology (photogrammetry, 3d laser scanning), as well as conservation works with traditional materials and techniques, on historic houses and churches. The practical work will be carried out under the guidance of the professionals of ARA and of this year's partner organization, EKG Baukultur, Vienna-Berlin. The detailed programme will be announced shortly.
The pursuit of the ARA hands-on schools dedicated to the theory and practice of rescue, conservation and enhancement of built heritage, applied to the site of Roşia Montană, is possible thanks to our sustained collaboration with established specialists and prestigious organisations in the field of heritage research and protection, but also thanks to the support and involvement of those local people who are preoccupied by the preservation of the outstanding heritage in their care, seeking to find a way for development based on this heritage.
