      Plundered Heritage

      The disturbed conception of public authorities on the way in which a city - pretended European - must relate to the values of the past destroys the Heritage of Bucharest once more.

These authorities ignore the opinion of citizens. They ignore the opinion of experts which, in the spirit of respect to professional ethics, have pointed not just once to the gravity of irreversible destruction, to the premeditated effects of a surgery applied to historic monuments with the scalpel of incompetence. Contempt and ignorance draw the profile of those who decide the destiny of Romania's capital city and who have the mission to watch over the precious traces of its past.

The ruins of the Princely Academy established by Brâncoveanu furtively destroyed, the occultation of the vestiges of the Princely Court, today covered in concrete, the mediocrity of solutions chosen for the vitalization of the Historic Centre, complicity to the disappearance of Assan's Mill... Now Hala Matache destroyed as well, in the dead of night, under the cover of an orange code blizzard warning.

The Ministry for Culture? It keeps quiet.
